How to Apply to Universities in Ghana (2027): Step by Step

Foreign students in Ghana must hold a student residence permit from the Ghana Immigration Service for the whole length of their study; the fee is GH¢259 for most nationals and GH¢194 for ECOWAS citizens. At the University of Ghana, 2025/2026 first-year undergraduate fees for international students range from USD 4,354 for African nationals in the humanities to USD 13,972 for non-African nationals in Medicine, and the application fee is USD 55.

Degree study in Ghana

  1. Apply to the university and pay the application fee (USD 55 at the University of Ghana).
  2. Receive the admission letter and pay school fees.
  3. Get a Non-Citizen Identification card.
  4. Apply for a student residence permit with the school's letter to the Comptroller-General, photographs, admission letter, fee receipts and passport (GH¢259 for most nationals).
