Study in Argentina: Admission, Cost, Visa and Scholarships (2027)

Argentina's universities teach in Spanish, and the academic year starts in March. Universidad de San Andrés, a private university near Buenos Aires founded in 1988, requires Spanish at B2 level for its undergraduate programmes and offers international students a free Spanish test, help with recognising their school diploma and assistance with the student visa, which it advises starting at least two months ahead. Undergraduate applicants pay an ARS 50,000 application fee and an ARS 400,000 fee to reserve a place, while graduate programmes publish their own prices, such as 24 monthly instalments of ARS 575,760 plus a ARS 400,000 enrolment fee for the Master's in International Politics and Economics, whose applications for 2027 close on 8 March 2027. Its Beca San Andrés can cover up to 100% of undergraduate tuition.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues a student visa for complete degree or postgraduate courses at public or private institutions in the official education system, authorising a stay of up to two years, and it must be requested only at the Argentine consulate for the applicant's place of residence. Applicants provide a passport valid for at least six months, two photographs, the application form, a copy of the study programme, electronic pre-registration by the institution with the migration authority, a criminal record certificate for applicants aged 16 or over, proof of address, proof of sufficient financial means for the stay and studies, and attend a consular interview. The consular fee is USD 250, and the migration fee is USD 300 for MERCOSUR citizens and USD 600 for other nationals; no minimum amount of funds is published.

Students already in Argentina can apply to the National Directorate of Migration for temporary residence as a student, with their passport, criminal records, proof of address, proof of legal entry and the electronic enrolment certificate. It is granted for one year and can be renewed. The migration fee table sets this in units called UMSM, currently valued at ARS 1,000 each. Argentina's immigration law allows temporary residents to carry out paid work only during their authorised stay, and no weekly hour limit or post-study option for students is published.
